Key Takeaways
- Southern Living at 66% off: The Southern Living Annual Recipes Cookbook 20th Anniversary Edition is the closest match to a Southern Living Christmas cookbook in this week’s books.
- A cookbook with West Virginia in the title: Best of the Best from the Mid-South pulls recipes from favorite cookbooks of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia.
- Deepest markdown of the week: The Trellis Cookbook: Expanded Edition from Simon & Schuster is 76% off.
- Bestseller for a holiday crowd: The Fix-It and Forget-It Big Cookbook holds the #1 bestseller rank in its category, with 1,400 slow cooker recipes.
Late October in West Virginia is when the kitchen starts to matter again. Bow hunters come in cold off the ridges, and somebody in the family has already asked who’s hosting Christmas this year. It’s also when a lot of folks start looking for the new Southern Living Christmas cookbook, the holiday edition plenty of families pick up at Dillard’s every year.
Here’s the honest part. Going through this week’s cookbook markdowns for WV Finds, I didn’t see that Christmas edition discounted anywhere. What I did see was the Southern Living Annual Recipes Cookbook 20th Anniversary Edition marked down by about two thirds, plus a cluster of southern and regional books that dropped hard at the same time.
The Trellis Cookbook, The Blackberry Farm Cookbook and a Mid-South collection with West Virginia recipes all showed up in the same pull, with discounts running from 51% to 76%. So this week’s books lean southern, with some holiday baking and a few big-crowd books for the meat course. Prices verified October 24, 2026.
Is there a Southern Living Christmas cookbook on sale this week?
Not the Christmas edition itself, but the Southern Living Annual Recipes 20th Anniversary Edition is marked down and it’s the nearest substitute. Next to it is a regional collection that West Virginia kitchens should look at first.
Southern Living Annual Recipes 20th Anniversary
This is the closest thing to a Southern Living Christmas cookbook in this week’s pool, and for a lot of kitchens it’s the more useful buy because it covers the whole year. The magazine runs a holiday issue every year, so the Annual Recipes line tends to carry a good share of Christmas cooking alongside everything else. It sits at #674 in books and a third-party seller holds the listing, so look at the seller on the card before you check out.

Quail Ridge Press Best of the Best Mid-South
Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia in one cookbook title is something I don’t see often, and that’s why it made this list. The recipes are pulled from favorite cookbooks across those states, which is about as close to a church potluck table as a book gets. If you liked our roundup of West Virginia cookbooks for Appalachian home cooking, start with this one.

Which southern cookbooks belong next to it?
Blackberry Farm and Jubilee are the two southern books I’d put on a shelf beside any Southern Living title. The Trellis Cookbook is the bargain of the group, but it’s more of a niche pick.
Crown The Blackberry Farm Cookbook
Blackberry Farm is a Tennessee property in the Smoky Mountain foothills, and the subtitle promises four seasons of food, so the winter chapter is where holiday cooks will spend their time. This is the priciest book in the roundup even after the markdown. I’d treat it as a gift book for the cook who already owns the basics.
- Four seasons of food
- Sold by Amazon
- Prime shipping
Crown Jubilee Cookbook
Southern holiday cooking owes a great deal to African American cooks, and Jubilee covers two centuries of that history in recipe form. It had the shallowest discount of my selections. It’s also sold directly by the store with Prime shipping, so the listing is about as clean as they come.
- Two centuries of African American cooking
- Sold by Amazon
- Prime shipping
Simon & Schuster Trellis Cookbook
This expanded edition from Simon & Schuster took the deepest markdown in the whole pool this week. A bestseller rank of #2,151 tells me it’s a niche title, not a crowd favorite, and a third-party seller holds the Buy Box. If it’s been on your wish list, it’s cheap enough now to stop waiting.
- Expanded Edition
- Bestseller rank #2,151

What cookbooks help with Christmas baking and hosting?
The Lake Eden Cookbook is the cookie book of the bunch, and Cooking for Jeffrey is the one for a sit-down holiday dinner. The Modern Pioneer Cookbook suits a scratch-cooking household.
Kensington Lake Eden Cookbook

Joanne Fluke's Lake Eden Cookbook: Hannah Swensen's Recipes from The Cookie Jar (Hannah Swensen Mysteries)
Anyone who reads the Hannah Swensen mysteries will know The Cookie Jar, and this book collects the recipes from it. A #77 rank says plenty of readers are buying it. I’d put it in a stocking for the cozy mystery reader who also runs the family cookie tin.
- Hannah Swensen recipes from The Cookie Jar
- Bestseller rank #77

Crown Cooking for Jeffrey
The Barefoot Contessa books are built around cooking for people you love, and this one has the title to prove it. At #56 in its category, it’s one of the stronger sellers in the pool. It’s a good fit if you’re the one hosting Christmas dinner and want recipes that look like effort without taking all day.

DK The Modern Pioneer Cookbook
DK is one of the two trusted publishers in this week’s pull, and this book is about cooking from a traditional foods kitchen. It ranks #163 and is sold directly by the store. If someone on your list is already reading homestead skills books, this is the kitchen side of that shelf.

Slow cooker and smoked meat books for a holiday crowd
For a big family gathering, the Fix-It and Forget-It Big Cookbook is the practical pick. Franklin Barbecue and MeatEater cover the meat course, and MeatEater suits deer season too.
Good Books Fix-It and Forget-It Big Cookbook
This book holds the #1 bestseller rank in its category, and 1,400 slow cooker recipes is a lot of Christmas Eve dinners. It won’t win any beauty contests, but a slow cooker on the counter frees up the oven for the ham. For wood stove nights after the holidays, our list of cozy cabin cookbooks pairs well with it.
- 1,400 slow cooker recipes
- Bestseller rank #1
- Sold by Amazon
Ten Speed Press Franklin Barbecue
Franklin Barbecue is a meat-smoking manifesto from Ten Speed Press, and it’s sitting at #14 with a Prime Big Deal tag. It’s the book for the family member who wants to smoke a brisket for Christmas instead of baking a ham. Expect technique more than quick weeknight recipes.
- Meat-smoking manifesto
- Bestseller rank #14

Penguin Random House MeatEater Fish and Game Cookbook

The MeatEater Fish and Game Cookbook: Recipes and Techniques for Every Hunter and Angler
With bow season open and the buck firearm season coming up in late November, MeatEater is the most West Virginia book on this list after the Mid-South collection. It covers recipes and techniques for both hunters and anglers, and it ranks #5. If venison is going on the holiday table, our hunting camp cookbook guide has more options.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Southern Living Christmas cookbook on sale right now?
The yearly Christmas edition did not show up discounted in this week’s books. The closest match is the Southern Living Annual Recipes Cookbook 20th Anniversary Edition, which is marked down now. We check prices every week, so the holiday edition may appear later in the season.
Which cookbook here has West Virginia recipes?
Best of the Best from the Mid-South Cookbook selects recipes from favorite cookbooks of Tennessee, Kentucky and West Virginia. It’s the only book in this group with West Virginia in the title. A third-party seller holds the listing, with Prime shipping.
Are these cookbook discounts real?
The original prices on books are usually the publisher’s cover price, so the markdowns are less inflated than in most categories. Most of these are sold directly by the store and hold the Buy Box. The Southern Living, Trellis and Mid-South books come from third-party sellers, so check the seller first.
What’s a good Christmas cookbook gift for a hunter?
The MeatEater Fish and Game Cookbook is the strongest pick, with recipes and techniques for hunters and anglers. It ranks #5 in its category. Franklin Barbecue is a good second choice for someone who smokes meat.
Discounts in this week’s books ran from 51% on Jubilee to 76% on the Trellis Cookbook, and most of my picks sat in the 60s. The Southern Living Annual Recipes book came in at 66%, Blackberry Farm at 64%, and MeatEater at 62%. Because book list prices usually match the cover price, those numbers hold up better than the percentages I see in kitchen tools or apparel.
It was a good week, though not a perfect one for anyone set on the Christmas edition itself. The two I’d point a neighbor to are the Mid-South collection for its West Virginia recipes and the Southern Living annual for a full year of cooking. Blackberry Farm is lovely but still expensive, and I’d only grab the Trellis book if you already wanted it.
If you’re planning a mountain-style holiday menu, our guide to cookbooks for Appalachian Christmas food fills in the regional side, and you can browse all deals for whatever else is marked down. I’ll keep watching for the Southern Living Christmas edition through November, since holiday cookbooks tend to get cheaper as the big shopping weekend gets closer. If it drops, it’ll be in here, probably next to whatever venison book I couldn’t leave out.
